Arlecchino Malato d'Amore performed by the Cortesi family in Hoboken, NJ.

Hoboken Shelter, St. John's Church
300 Bloomfield St
07030 Hoboken, NJ
United States

A special presentation by the Cortesi family in the tradition of Italian puppetry.

This show will benefit the Hoboken Shelter with a suggested donation of $10 for admission.

After the Cortesi Family's successful tour of New York in Spring 2007, that included a sold out show at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò at New York University, they are back with a new show.

Arlecchino Lovesick includes some of the most well known Commedia dell'Arte characters and is the best example of classical Northern-Italian puppetry school.

Synopsis: The marquis of Almaviva is pursued by his creditors. Taking advice from his servant Brighella Cavicchio, he plans to marry Pantalone's daughter Smeraldina and use her dowry to pay his debts.  The news of the imminent wedding shocks Arlecchino, who becomes desperate to regain his beloved Smeraldina and seeks the help of his friend Gioppino Zaccalunga, who has just been diagnosed with a serious disease by the half-blind and stuttering Dr. Tartaglia. After a series of mishaps and funny situations, everything goes well and the comedy ends with a traditional masquerade ball.

Performance is in universally comprehensible Italian.
