A press conference to present one of the most important restorations of Abruzzo’s artistic legacy after the 2009 earthquake.

On the second anniversary of the tragic Abruzzo earthquake, Dr. Lucia Arbace, Superintendent fortheHistoric and Artistic Ethno-anthropological Heritage of the Abruzzo Region, will illustrate the Region’s artistic legacy and its present state, after the catastrophic quake that shook the city of l’Aquila and Abruzzo on April 6, 2009.
Mr. Mario Resca, Director General for the Management and Promotion of Cultural Heritage - Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, will review and analyze the Ministry’s latest policies for the preservation and restoration of Italy’s artistic heritage.
The president of the Italian American Museum, Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa, will present his institution and 110,000 U.S. Dollar fund raising contribution to sustain the recovery and restoration of Our Lady of Pietranico, a precious sixteenth century terracotta Madonna which was almost completely destroyed in the earthquake.
Finally, the Madonna’s art restorer and coordinator of the project, Mrs. Elisabetta Sonnino, will describe the restoration and illustrate its stages in a PowerPoint presentation.
The Madonnaof Pietranico will be on display at the Italian American Museum from April 7 to June 2, 2011.
