TheGaetano Salvemini Lectures are named after one of the most prominent scholars of social sciences of the 20th century. Gaetano Salvemini, exile from Fascist Italy and professor at Harvard until 1948, embodied at best afull commitment tothe ideals of democracy and civic awarenessas well as a strict adherence to paradigms of scientific accuracy. First-rate personalities from Italy are invited to deliver Salvemini Lectures.
The First Gaetano Salvemini Lecture will be delivered by Giuliano Amato.Opening remarks and introduction to thelecture by the Ambassadorof Italy to the United States Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata.Ambassador Richard Gardner will introduce Prof. Giuliano Amato. Professor Amato, a member of Italy's Parliament for 18 years, is a former Prime Minister of Italy (1992-1993 and 2000-2001), a distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law and President of the National Committee for the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.
