We regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen circumstances the event at Princeton University has been canceled.“The Fate of Planet Earth Under the Greenhouse Effect, Ozone Hole and Deforestation” ” is the second out of three lectures on hot science issues by Vittorio Canuto (former senior scientist at NASA, now Professor at Columbia University). He will converse with Will Happer (Professor of Physics at Princeton University).In this second talk, Vittorio Canuto will discuss the way we are treating the planet we live in with references to Global Warming, Acidification of the oceans, Deforestation of the tropical forests, Loss of biological diversity and the Ozone layer.How is humanity treating a planet that is not our property but was given to us by previous generations? Are we trustworthy stewards of our planet? What kind of a planet do we leave to the future generations? Is there a principle of “generational equity” that we should abide by? Do we have to think of future generations even though they are not here as yet? What is the state of our planet in which 6+ billion human beings live and increase at a rate of about 90 million a year? Is such a trend sustainable or are we witnessing the flickering lights of Civilization as an interlude?
