Year of Italian Culture Celebrations Reach Chicago

Ten days dedicated to Italian culture and friendship between Italy and the United States for the city of Chicago. As of this evening, the "capital" of the Midwest is celebrating its 2013 Year of Italian Culture in the U.S. with three concerts of Maestro Riccardo Muti, director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

The concerts are celebrating the life of the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. "Verdi is a composer loved all over the world, but - in spite of its popularity - he is not yet adequately known," - noted Muti. "It's a happy coincidence - he continued - that we can commemorate the bicentenary of his birth exactly in 2013, when we celebrate the Year of Italian Culture in the United States."

On June 24, at the Field Museum, artist Marco Nereo Rotelli will present an installation of contemporary lights and sounds inspired by the Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri, while from the 25th to the 29th of June the "Shakespeare Theater at Navy Pier" will host Toni Servillo and Piccolo Teatro di Milano with "The Voices Within" by Eduardo De Filippo.

Finally, on July 11, the exhibition Barrique promoted by the Community of San Patrignano will arrive in Chicago. It is an exhibition of design objects made ​​of wood from old barrels. The exhibit has been very successful in Washington, New York and Boston.
