  • Giovanni Battista Moroni, Portrait of a Young Woman, ca. 1575. Photo: Michael Bodycomb
Giovanni Battista Moroni (b. 1520-24; d. 1579-80) painted his sitters exactly as they appeared before him - no artistic or idealized filters applied. The Frick Collection is the first museum in North America to present a major exhibition devoted to the 16th-century artist famous for his naturalistic portraits but almost unknown in the US.
  • The Three Graces and Venus Dancing in front of Mars by Canova Antonio (1798)
Coincidentally, with the exhibition at the Frick Collection of Canova’s plaster model of the George Washington Statue and the photographic show at the Consulate General of Italy "Antonio Canova," by Fabio Zonta, the Italian Cultural Institute in New York presents another face of the Italian artist identity; 16 rare tempera paintings. We talked about it with the Director of the Institute Giorgio Van Straten. The exhibition "Canova e la Danza" will be on until June 28th.
  • Antonio Canova's sculpture of George Washington comes to the USA
A statue of George Washington created by one of the greatest Italian neoclassical sculptors of all time, Antonio Canova, will be displayed at the Frick Collection starting on May 22nd, 2018 and it provides an entirely new outlook on America’s founding father.
