A lecture by Frank Gerard Godlewski and Angel Orensanz about Angel Orensanz's intallation."The Floating Sistine Chapel" was conceptually created around Achille Bonito Oliva's theme "The Joyous Instability of Art", written for the Palermo exhibition where Angel Orensanz participates in 2008."Instability is the true essence of contemporary art... Orensanz's works never reveal their beginning and end. The concept does not prevail over the object. It is the fruit of the web which weaves together the memory of culture and the memory of nature..

This exhibition, which is curated by the artist Douglas Lazarus, wants to celebrate the beauty of America's first major civil engineering project - The Erie Canal. Its concept traces back to Leonardo da Vinci, and to this day canal locks still utilize LeonardoDa Vinci's principles to raise and lower water levels on canals. The exhibition consists of over two-dozen images: half will be original, contemporary paintings of the canal and half will be historical photos and text panels chronicling the canal's construction.
