A talk by Alessia Ricciardi, Associate Professor of Italian Studies-University of California, Berkley. A revisitation of Pier Paolo Pasolini's cinematic masterpiece "Salo" or "The 120 Days of Sodom". On its initial release in 1975, the film's explicit treatment of political and sexual questions generated heated controversy, including sharp criticism by Foucault. Yet Pasolini's prescience in visualizing the contemporary problematic of power still has not been fully grappled with, particularly in the wake of the prisoner torture at Abu Ghraib.
