Known primarily for his expressionist work, Emilio Vedova is one of Italy’s most renowned artists among international circles. In 1956 he received the Guggenheim International Award, and in 1960 the Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale. His work has been exhibited in museums throughout Italy, as well as at the Guggenheim Museum and Chelsea Art Museum of New York.

Andrea Centazzo performs ‘Mandala,’ consisting of five music/video compositions plus the world premiere of a new composition dedicated to the Rubin Museum. A live multimedia concert by the Italian American composer, percussionist and video-maker based on the mandala of Borobodur and paintings in the Museum’s collection. Live demonstration of the making of a “Pupo” by Vincenzo Argento.On the occasion of the exhibition "Antonello da Messina" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Argento Company will perform at The Metropolitan Museum of Art “The Battle of Orlando and Rinaldo for the Love of Angelica” on February 18 and 19 at 1:00 and 3:00 pm. A lecture by Prof. Arthur Holmberg of Brandeis University will follow each 3:00 show.

A special screening of classical Italian silent film Assunta Spina (Gustavo Serena, 1915, 62 min., starring Francesca Bertini) with live music by Ensemble Dissonanzen. Inspired by a play by Salvatore Di Giacomo, Assunta Spina was shot in Naples’ most popular streets. In this live soundtrack, the Ensemble relies on Di Giacomo’s lyrics, full or in fragments, to counterpoint the movie, and plays along with images and texts making extensive use of “Neapolitan sound samples” (old songs and street noise) that are part of the improvisational game

A story love, betrayal, and infanticide, the performance offers a mirror reflecting the passionate and destructive love affair between the italian poet and novelist Gabriele D`Annunzio and Eleonora Duse, one of the greatest of her day.
