Nicola Gardini, a graduate of New York University, teaches Italian Literature at the University of Oxford. He has published literary essays, translations of English, American and Latin poets, a few books of poetry and two novels. Among his most recent works the Meridiano Mondadori of Ted Hughes (2008) and the memoir I baroni (2009). Nicola Gardini is currently working on a book on Italian Renaissance.

In 1994, Italian surgeon Luigi Strada founded the humanitarian organization, Emergency, to help civilian victims of war. Today the organization operates in 14 countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Rwanda.

Poet Maria Terrone is one of the two featured readers following a 7:00 pm open mike. The reading is hosted by Vittoria Repetto. Terrone has two collections: A Secret Room in Fall and The Bodies We Were Loaned.
