Humanities, specifically in the Western world, are the pillar of our civilization’s identity and have always played a vital role in the development of societies all over the world. The humanities change continuously and are also characterized by national and local peculiarities. More importantly, they represent what is universal in the background knowledge of citizens in the Western world and even more so for citizens worldwide. Why Democracy Needs the Humanities, written by Martha C.

A book by a young archaeologist that tells everything about the Aurelian Wall, which after more than 1700 years from its construction, is still one of the most dominating and striking features of the urban landscape of Rome. The Wall was the embodiment of the greatness of Urbs Roma.

Eugenio Montale changed Italian poetry forever and helped to create international Modernism. Steeped in the tradition of Dante, Petrarch and Leopardi, yet fiercely innovative, in each new book Montale challenged the styles he had previously established. His poems chart an adventure of consciousness and conscience in response to the shocks of modernity, fascism, and two world wars, and they also present several of the greatest erotic sequences in modern poetry.
