“The Eerie Silence. Is There Life in the Universe or Are We Alone?”  is the last lecture on hot science issues by Vittorio Canuto (former senior scientist at  NASA, now Professor at Columbia University). He will converse with Massimo Pigliucci (Professor of Philosophy at Lehman College).

The series Antonio Meucci Honorary Lectures starts with a lecture on “the Mirror Mechanism” by Italian neurophysiologist and Senior Scientist Prof. Giacomo Rizzolatti.
Prof. Rizzolatti, Director of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Parma, will lecture on his paradigm-shattering discovery, in the early 1990s, of the mirror-neuron system in humans which explains the human capacity to learn by imitation.
With an introduction by  Prof. Emilio Bizzi (MIT), former president of The American Academy of Arts and Science.

Nobel Prize winners for Economics Kenneth Arrow, Daniel Kahneman and Oliver Williamson will speak on: “The future of  Economics: Updating Bounded Rationality”,  The First Herbert Simon Society Seminar organized by The Italian Cultural Institute of New York in collaboration with  The Rosselli Foundation.

$30,000 in scholarships will be awarded to 15-20 outstanding students who study Italian at WCC. Outstanding students of Italian will be recognized with awards. Officers and members of the Italian Club will be recognized for their contributions to our activities. Students of the day/evening, Saturday community will be recognized for their achievements.

The Italian Cultural Institute of New York will host a round-table discussion to present "Divinamente NYC" - The Third International Art Festival on Spirituality (May 18 - 22, 2011). The topic will be "Terre Sacre" (Sacred Lands), a spiritual feeling about belonging to one's homeland. Speakers will include representatives of different religions from all over the world.
   

The third International Art Festival Of Spirituality, founded by Pamela Villoresi, will open on the 18th of May at the Italian Cultural Institute with a round table discussion on “Terre Sacre” (Sacred Home), on a spiritual feelings of belonging to the own  homeland.
Guests (TBA) will discuss topics on the exodus and exile.
Artists from different backgrounds have been invited to reflect  upon the concept of “home”.

The program includes performances located in different places.
