Luca Lombardi is one of internationally most known Italian composers.

On the occasion of the concert scheduled on April 12 at Alice Tully Hall, the IIC of New York is pleased to present Luca Lombardi's conference about slowness in music.

The “Assonance/Dissonance” exhibition will showcase masterpieces of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, such as Giordano, Bassano, Cardi, Redi alongside works by twentieth century Italian artists, including Pistoletto, Mondino, Paladino, Chia and Clemente, courtesy of the Sperone Westwater collection.

This juxtaposition of antique and contemporary art will bring to the fore the ways in which the skills and techniques of the old masters have been adopted by some of the most influential and avant-garde Italian artists of the twentieth century.

Maestro Matteo Fedeli will bring a precious Stradivarius built in 1726 on tour in the USA for the first time.

To commemorate the April 25 anniversary of Italy’s Liberation from Nazi Germany, the Italian Cultural Institute will host a film screening of Luigi Comencini’s “Tutti a casa”, featuring Alberto Sordi, and Guido Chiesa’s “Il partigiano Johnny”, based on the eponymous novel by Beppe Fenoglio. In addition to the anniversary of the Italian Liberation, the film screenings will recognize the ten-year anniversary of Alberto Sordi’s death, and the fifty-year anniversary of Beppe Fenoglio’s death.
The panel will discuss the portrayal of the Italian Liberation in film and literature.

A strange, forty-something man, ironically nicknamed “the Professor”, lives the wretched life of an all-round servant in a shady house of high-class call girls in Rome. He starts visiting one of the prostitutes who has been hospitalized after an attempted suicide. A delicate story ensues between these two.

Claudio Magris, celebrated writer and expert of Middle-European literatures, was born in 1939 in Trieste, a town at the crossing of Italian, German and Slavic cultures. Always interested in the social and ethical function of literary writing, Magris is among the most eloquent advocate of the responsibility of literature. A literary work is something individual that shows itself to the whole world, and therefore, because it has a ethical content, enters the life, ideas and the feelings of the polis, the community. Literature is by definition a slow activity.

Seguso, the renowned Murano Company producing glass since 1397, along with the Italian Cultural Institute host a very special evening on Thursday, May 9 from 6 pm – 8pm with Mr. Giampaolo Seguso, Murano glass artist, poet and philosopher.
Giampaolo Seguso is the 22nd generation of the Seguso glassmaking dynasty, whose internationally renowned works have been exhibited in the most important cities in the world, and admired, for their visionary approach, as well as the great deal of hidden research they show.

The exhibition presents a collection of furniture and a series of letters, family photographs, and videos that exemplify the modernity of Gio Ponti, a key figure of 20th century design. Architect and designer, founder of “Domus” and “Stile” magazines and of the Compasso d’Oro award, writer and lecturer at the Milan Politecnico, G. ponti was honored with the Médaille d’Or by the French Academy of Architecture.

During 2013, the Year of Italian Culture in the USA, the Honors Center of Italian Universities (H2CU) presents a series of events - meetings and conferences - that will show the
results of the ten years of the H2CU activity in the US while outlining the strategy for future collaborations.
