    In Friuli Venezia Giulia, a northeastern Italian region, the landscape gracefully flows from mountain peaks to coastal stretches. This unique environment – warm sea breezes, chilly high-altitude nights, and diverse mineral-rich soil – creates the perfect terroir for wine. As a result, though small, Friuli Venezia Giulia produces more than half of Italy’s white wines, and its selection of reds are gaining in fame, as well.

    Last May the Wine Media Guild, an association of wine writers, organized a tasting and lunch featuring the red wines of Sicily. I am the co-chair of the organization and was the member sponsor of this event. The wines were from all over the island and ranged in price for $12.99 to $159.99.

  • The New York Wine Expo 2012 brought to the Javits Center over 3,000 New Yorkers who love wine, free tastings and fun. The Italian presence at the event was significant: the Italian Pavilion by ITC, offering samples of specialty wines, oils and cheeses from Italy, was one of the most visited areas of the show.
  • Celebrating Fashion Week and Valentine's Day, Italian Trade Commission's Fashion of the Vine Project treated New Yorkers with fine Italian wines, Baci Perugina and a preview of La Perla's latest collection.
