International Conference on THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS

This International Conference aims at providing a high-profile opportunity to examine the state of the art of policies related to the protection of women’s rights around the world. Italian and American senior academics and professionals will present multidisciplinary views and approaches in the field. In spite of progress in the social consciousness of gender equality issues, discriminatory practices based on gender are still pervasive in many societies. Several primary topics related to women’s rights, like the protection of women refugees, the role played by the UN and international and regional agencies , the protection of women under international law, the rulings of international courts, and the issue of female genital mutilations will be covered.
The conference is held at the initiative of Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italy’s Ministry for Equal Opportunities, the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations, the Consulate General of Italy in New York and the Italian Cultural Institute in New York.
