  • On the occasion of the Italian Culture and Heritage Month, the Province of Palermo represented by its President Giovanni Avanti paid its tribute to the Italian-American policeman Joe Petrosino by organizing the exhibit “Joe Petrosino, a 20th Century Hero. A documented account of his assassination in Palermo”, on view at the Calandra Italian American Institute. During the inauguration, Anna Maria Corradini presented her book “Documenta Joe Petrosino”, available for free for all of those who will visit the display. At the end of the event, the Consul General Francesco Maria Talò gave the title of “Knight of the Italian Republic” to Cosimo Sanicola, a native of the town of Marineo (Sicily) who moved to the United States at the age of 13

    An exciting documentary (yes--they do exist!) called "Le Conversazioni" ("Conversations") shot in Capri was presented at the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò (NYU). The main topic for discussion amongst famous American authors and film producers dealt with their perception of the problem that literature currently faces in the advent of moving images, or cinema
  • All’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di New York, lunedì scorso la sala era pierna per la presentazione del libro più venduto d’Italia. E' il caso editoriale italiano degli ultimi anni: "La Casta. Così i politici italiani sono diventati intoccabili” (Rizzoli 2007), scritto a quattro mani dai giornalisti del Corriere della Sera Gian Antonio Stella e Sergio Rizzo, da circa sei mesi fa tremare i Palazzi della politica italiana.
  • Fu il dottor Ferdinando Zanetti il 23 novembre 1863 ad estrarre la famosa pallottola dal malleolo del Garibaldi “ferito” pochi mesi prima durante l’agguato in Aspromonte. L’episodio segnò definitivamente la vita e la carriera del medico pisano consegnandolo per sempre alla mitologia Garibaldina, portandolo a ricevere riconoscimenti ed attestati di stima da ogni parte del mondo. Tutte quelle medaglie, assieme ad alcune lettere e all’astuccio con i bisturi e gli strumenti utilizzati in occasione di quello storico intervento, sono esposti da giovedì 20 settembre fino al 12 ottobre all’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di New York nell’ambito della mostra “Giuseppe Garibaldi tra Storia e Mito”.
