Hamlet Hallucinations

LA MAMA Theatre
74 East 4th Street
10003 New York, NY
United States

On October 17 2013 the First Floor at La MaMa E.T.C. will house the debut of "HAMLET HALLUCINATIONS" the new show written and directed by Dario D'Ambrosi, the Italian cult director that for the last thirty years has explored all the controversial aspects of mental illness in its most powerful expressions through the use of the theater medium. D'Ambrosi was in New York less than a year ago with his provocative "Medea" (a show interpreted by a chorus of over twenty mentally ill performers and awarded in 2013 in London as best foreign show at the Wilton's Music Hall), is back to La MaMa with a strong and personal interpretation of Hamlet. In D'Ambrosi rewriting, Hamlet is a young schizophrenic, victim and at the same time enforcer of his own bourgeois "Culture of Doubt". "To Be, Or Not To Be...?" turns from a quote into a pathological condition, synthesized in a two-act show where the original text of the bard is juxtaposed to D'Ambrosi's raving language.
