“Origin of Life in the Universe. An Encounter of Astronomy and Biology” ” is the first out of three lectures on hot science issues by Vittorio Canuto (former senior scientist at NASA, now Professor at Columbia University). He will converse with Cristiano Galbiati (Professor of Physics at Princeton University). In this first lecture, Vittorio Canuto will present a general panorama of how the universe evolved after the Big Bang some 14 billion years ago, how galaxies and then stars came into being and how life evolved in the primitive planet Earth. How did life originate in the primitive earth’s environment some 4 billion years ago? How did the first amino acids, the building blocks of life, come into being? After billions of years under water in the earth’s oceans, life finally moved to land. He will trace the human evolution, the evolution of the human brain and the probable causes of its expansion from the time of Lucy more than 2 million years ago. The lecture will end with some speculations as to the future evolution of the human brain.R.S.V.P.
