A comprehensive retrospective of the work of visionary architect and artist Massimo ScolariMassimo Scolari: The Representation of Architecture, 1967-2012 marks the first retrospective of Scolari’s work in the United States since 1986, at The Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Gallery, The Cooper Union, East 7 E. 7th St. (b/w 3rd and 4th Aves.), 2nd floor, NYC, 10003.The exhibition will start on October 2nd and will go on until November 21st, 2012, from 12am to 7pm, Tuesday-Saturday, and it will closed Sunday and Monday. Featuring over 160 original drawings, paintings, watercolors, and other works completed over the past forty-five years. Scolari re-envisions the representation of architectural form through highly detailed paintings, extending the boundaries of architecture and challenging the viewer to re-think his or her own understanding of the discipline. The exhibition includes some of Scolari’s earliest work, and reveals themes that he revisits time and again throughout his career.An architect, artist, educator, scholar, editor and designer, Massimo Scolari was a professor at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice until 2000 and served as Visiting Professor at The Cooper Union (1977 and 1978), as well as other preeminent international institutions of higher education. Scolari has held exhibitions in Europe, Japan, Russia and the United States. His works are featured in the collections of MoMA, Deutsches Architektur Museum and the Centre Pompidou. He also realized numerous installations for the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale, and designed furniture for Giorgetti.Massimo Scolari: The Representation of Architecture, 1967-2012 is organized by the Yale School of Architecture. Additional support for the exhibition is provided by the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, the Turner Foundation, and by Elise Jaffe + Jeffrey Brown. The exhibition is presented in association with Archtober, Architecture and Design Month New York City, October 2012.
