  • Italians are a fairly superstitious people, especially when the new year comes around. Here are some seasonal traditions, beliefs and superstitions from across the country, ranging from the most common, such as eating lentils and wearing red, to rather unusual ones. It is a terrible year because of the pandemic but certainly while respecting the rules the Italians will try to keep some traditions, the possible ones
  • A fascinating exhibition titled “Propaganda. The Art of Political Indoctrination” conceived and curated by Professor Nicola Lucchi of Queens College opened March 4th at New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò, followed by a panel discussion with artistic advisors and NYU Professors Ruth Ben-Ghiat and Ara Merjian. It showcases a selection of works from the Fondazione Massimo e Sonia Cirulli mostly (but not exclusively) dating from Italy’s fascist period and aims to inspire a reflection on the mechanisms of political propaganda under totalitarian regimes as well as during “democratic” times.
  • 100 years from the birth of Vico Magistretti, Fondazione Magistretti along with the Italian Cultural Institute present and exhibition dedicated to the acclaimed Italian designer and architect, whose groundbreaking work, conducted throughout his highly prolific sixty-year career, left a profound mark both on his native Milano as well as on the perception of Italian design both at home and abroad.
  • Salon/Sanctuary Concerts, in collaboration with NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and the American Society for Jewish Music present a performance by ensemble members of Ester, Liberatrice del Popolo Ebreo (“Esther, Liberator of the Jewish People”) by Alessandro Stradella (1639 -1682) which will take place at The Brotherhood Synagogue (28 Gramercy Park South) on Thursday March 5th.
  • Indixia presents Global Love, a love-themed exhibition and charity auction, in Chelsea’s Sundaram Tagore Gallery, featuring unique works by numerous international artists and designers with the goal to fund arts education in India and to help disadvantaged and disenfranchised women in Afghanistan to gain independence, education, and livable wages.
  • Parents, teachers, institutional representatives all gathered in Harlem’s cozy neighborhood pizzeria Sottocasa to celebrate the progress of Manhattan’s first dual language Italian program at the local PS 242. Together they discussed the benefits of bilingualism, shared their experiences and planned for the future of the program.
